Traditional Polish Folk Songs & Archaic Singing Technique

Workshop with Paulina Miu Kühling

9.11.2019, 18:30-21:00

This  workshop is designed to give you an impression of an unique archaic singing technique typical for cultures of Central and Eastern Europe. It can be described as a mixture of singing and shouting. In Poland it is also known as “bright voice” or “bright singing” because it gives the impression of brightness, it pierces space with its strong vibration. This singing technique is strongly connected to traditional polish folk songs and  their specific cultural, historical and even ecological context. It has no connection to classical music education. Instead, reaching for the deepest layers of the human voice, it is – in fact – one of the most natural forms of vocal expression.

Paulina Miu Kühling

I’m a singer, music composer, vocal coach and music therapist. Since 11 years I’m an active vocal educator. I try to embolden other people to conscious exploration of voice and space. I practice an unique, archaic vocal technique, characteristic for Central and Eastern Europe called “bright singing”. I graduated in music therapy at the Academy of Music in Łódź and intermedia at the University of Arts in Poznań, Poland. I’m currently living in Berlin.
